Help!!!!!!!After lurking for several months I finally bought a JD 755 . All has been well for the last month. This afternoon I was backing with the scrap blade pushing some dead limbs out of woods. All seemed well until I started back to the house to switch over to a landscape rake. I noticed that the hydro pedal seem unusually easy to push. When I got to the house and let off, the pedal stayed down and I had to hit the reverse pedal to stop. My once rather stiff hydro pedals now have a hair trigger. After parking and inspect everthing and toppimg off the tranny oil ( at the add mark) I tried to restart and now the engine won't attempt to crank. I suspect the " valve not centered don't crank switch" is open . However I can't locate it. I suspect whatever spring centers the valve is not operating. I traced the pedal linkage to a shaft on the side of the tranny and another linkage up to the cruise control but see no spring or switch mechanism. It is either internal or on the shaft as it exits the other side of the tranny which is not easily visable. I guess I'll drop by the dealer tomorrow and order a service manual. Any help until it arrives would be greatly appreciated.Reg Waters in SC

Reg, there should be a spring directly under the frame on the right hand side. It is approximately 6 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. It should be connected between an adjustable eyebolt and the transmission centering linkage. Sounds like this spring is broken or missing. The safety switch is a real bear to get to. It is on the swashplate lever inside of the right hand frame rail.It takes small hands and a lot of patience to reach the 2 screws that hold it. Fortunately this switch is very reliable and rarely gves a problem.
hopefully the centering spring is your problem.(not holding transmission in neutral) Good luck! ....

Thanks for the reply. Just went out with the flashlight and found the problem. the spring you discribed matches one I found in the yard last week. Just gotta figure out where it goes. I found a lever under the trans cover on the right hand side just in front of the seat . It was pushed foward. It has a strike plate on the top that acts as some sort of safety for the Operator on seat lever and trans. high/low/neutral lever. I pushed this lever back and now all is well. I suspect the spring helps this return on its own. It probably wasn't a problem until a limb knocked it out of position. I need to get real intimate with this mechanism, found some loose linkages that need tightening. If you want to run the 1/4 mile, shove this lever foward. I think I could do 0-60 in 5.2 sec. Will definately drop by the dealer for that manual tomorrow.
